Canonization miracles
Carlo Acutis: two healings
The Church recognized two healings through Carlo’s intercession: one in Brazil that led to his beatification, and one in Italy that led to his canonization.
StatusVatican decrees · 22 February 2020 and 23 May 2024
- Event
- 12 October 2013; 2 July 2022
- Place
- Campo Grande, Brazil; Florence, Italy
- People
- Matheus Vianna; Valeria Vargas Valverde and her mother, Liliana.
Evidence
Matheus Vianna, then four, had an incomplete annular pancreas that narrowed the duodenum, so he vomited constantly and was badly undernourished. On 12 October 2013, at a parish in Campo Grande, he touched a relic of Carlo and asked to stop vomiting. The Vatican record of the Campo Grande inquiry says the recovery was rapid, complete, lasting, and without a medical explanation. In the second case, Valeria suffered a severe head injury in a bicycle accident in Florence on 2 July 2022 and needed a craniotomy. On 8 July her mother prayed at Carlo’s tomb in Assisi; that same day Valeria began to breathe on her own, the next day she moved and recovered some speech, and a CT scan on 18 July showed the hemorrhage gone.
